Acadiana Cane Cutters News Release
Youngsville, LA - The Acadiana Cane Cutters participated in a game against the Lafayette Little League (LLL) Challengers thanks to the support of Service Chevrolet who sponsored the night! The Cane Cutters suffered a devastating 28-0 loss to the LLL Challengers, then bounced back to defeat the Brazos Valley Bombers 5-4. The game was tied at four with the Cane Cutters batting in the bottom of the eighth when an error scored one run to take the lead.
The Brazos Valley Bombers scored three runs in the eighth inning, but the Cane Cutters still managed to pull out the victory. Tyler Smith, Bryant Shellenbarger, and Ridge Rogers powered the big inning with RBIs.
Cane Cutters opened up an early lead in the second inning when University of Southern Miss. (USM) product Hunter LeBlanc drew a walk and scored a run.
Bryson Broussard out of Louisiana State University Alexandria (LSUA) earned the win for the Cane Cutters. He went one inning, allowing one run on two hits and walking one. Kris Peet from Delta State University (DSU) threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.Â
Joe Buckendorff took the loss for Brazos Valley Bombers. He allowed zero hits, walked one, and allowed one run to score in his one inning of work.
Amado Almanzar started the game for Brazos Valley Bombers. He allowed one hit and three runs over one and two-thirds innings.
Golden Eagles pitcher Drew Boyd (USM) had an impressive outing when he stepped on the mound. He threw seven innings allowing only 6 hits and 1 base on balls while striking out five throughout his outing. He also allowed only 2 earned runs which put him into the conversation for our Powerade player of the game but was bested by fellow pitcher Kris Peet.
Zach Mazur out of the University of Notre Dame (ND), Hunter LeBlanc (USM), Fisher Norris (USM), and Ryan Carr (ND) were the only players to record hits for the Cane Cutters.
Brazos Valley Bombers totaled eight hits. Sam McElreath and Cole Coker both collected multiple hits for Brazos Valley Bombers. McElreath went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Brazos Valley Bombers in hits.
Tonight's Powerade player of the game is the Fighting Okras very own Kris Peet (DSU)! Peet came in and closed the 9th inning by striking out the side on only 11 pitches! Peet picks up his second save on the season after recording his first save last night! Peet is also the first closer in Cane Cutters history to win the Powerade player of the game honor and not share the title!
