AFL Sets Training Camp Schedule for 2016
November 17, 2015 - Arena Football League (AFL) News Release
LAS VEGAS - The Arena Football League announced today that training camps for the 2016 season have been scheduled to begin mid-February. The season will open in early March with the official schedule to be released shortly.
Per League regulations, teams enter training camp with a 35-man roster which is reduced to 28 players after a first round of cuts. The two-week long camp concludes with a final round of cuts to a 24-man regular season roster.
The announcement follows the AFL's executive committee approval of the League's operations plan for 2016 season. The League also notified players and prospects about the schedule. Other regular events on the AFL calendar, such as player tryouts, are conducted on dates set by the individual teams.
AFL Commissioner Scott Butera said the ownership group is also set to review a broader, long-term strategic growth agenda including completion of agreements with a number of expansion opportunities.
"We are excited about the prospects for the 2016 season," Butera said. "In the coming days and weeks, we expect to reveal new sponsor agreements, broadcasting opportunities and team news. We are looking to renew the League's footprint and deliver an authentic, fun-filled football product for fans both old and new."
