FRIDAY'S GAMES
BIRMINGHAM 63, Cincinnati 33 (Attendance: 6,176): Rookie QB and game MVP JEFF AARON completed 16-of-22 passes for 206 yards and four touchdowns in the Birmingham (1-0) win over Cincinnati (0-2). The Steeldogs' ARYVIA HOLMES led all receivers with nine catches for 115 yards and three touchdowns.
BOSSIER CITY 78, Peoria 52 (Attendance: 4,000): Bossier City QB SHERARD POTEETE rushed for 74 yards with four touchdowns and passed for four more, completing 18-of-29 for 255 yards in the Battle Wings' (1-0) win over Peoria (0-2). BRIAN BAILEY contributed two of Bossier City's three sacks on the night.
Hawaii 53, QUAD CITY 52 (Attendance: 6,141): A botched Quad City (0-1) extra point attempt with 12 seconds remaining in the game allowed Hawaii (2-0) to escape with the win. Game MVP and Ironman NIAN TAYLOR caught five passes for 72 yards with two touchdowns and had 4.5 tackles.
SATURDAY'S GAMES
NORFOLK 31, Charleston 21 (Attendance: 3,500): Norfolk (1-0) built a 15-0 halftime lead and held Charleston (0-1) QB MAJOR HARRIS to 150 passing yards and one score in the win. Nighthawks' QB AARON SPARROW completed 16-of-29 for three touchdowns.
Albany 45, RICHMOND 42 (Attendance: 3,733): ADT Defensive Player of the Game ELIJAH BEAMON'S three-yard interception return for a touchdown with 34 seconds left to play pulled the visiting Conquest (1-0) ahead of the Speed (0-1). Conquest QB RYAN VENA and Speed QB JOEL GORDON both ran for three touchdowns.
COLUMBUS 26, Memphis 25 (Attendance: 3,778): QB MIKE GLUSKI hit ADRIAN COCKFIELD for a two-yard score as time expired and kicker TOMMY ROBINSON made good on the extra point to lift Columbus (1-0) over Memphis (0-1). Gluski, who was named game MVP, tossed four touchdowns on the night.
CAPE FEAR 54, Louisville 20 (Attendance: 5,066): Game MVP MATT BURNSTEIN caught three of QB BRYAN SNYDER'S four touchdowns passes in the Wildcats' (1-0) win over the Fire (0-1). Louisville's NORMAN MASON had two kick returns for touchdowns and had a game high 209 all-purpose yards, earning Ironman of the game honors.
Tennessee Valley 41, FLORIDA 32 (Attendance: 5,139): REGGIE WORTHY'S 20-yard touchdown reception late in the third quarter put Tennessee Valley (1-0) ahead of Florida (0-1) for the first time all night. JERRIAN JAMES iced the win for the Vipers with an eight-yard rushing tally in the final minute of the game.
Greensboro 46, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton 25 (Attendance 3,094): The Prowlers' (1-0) defense held the Pioneers to six points through three quarters in the convincing win. Greensboro QB KENTON EVANS threw for three touchdowns and ran for another, earning game MVP honors.
MACON 55, Green Bay 25 (Attendance: 2,970): Game MVP MIACAH COOPER'S 40-yard interception return for a touchdown in the first quarter set the tone for the Knights (1-0) as they powered past Green Bay (0-2). JACQUES RUMPF returned a kickoff 50 yards for a score and later caught a 23-yard strike, propelling the Knights to a 28-0 run to finish the game.
MOHEGAN 57, Rochester 20 (Attendance: 3,838): QB ROB HARDING connected with game MVP KAZMELL MINOTT twice in the first quarter and Minott added an 11-yard missed field goal return for a score, helping the Wolves to a 25-0 first quarter lead in the runaway win over the Brigade (0-1).
