June 13, 2006 - arenafootball2 (af2) News Release

CHICAGO - Macon wide receiver/defensive back MATT JACKSON, Louisville quarterback BRETT DIETZ, and Bakersfield offensive/defensive lineman JERRY TURNER have been named the U.S. Army Ironman, Schutt Offensive Player and ADT Defensive Player of the Week, respectively, for Week 11 of the 2006 season. In addition to these three awards, the recipient of the Cutters Catch of the Week Award goes to Tulsa wide receiver/defensive back DON MCGEE. The Catch of the Week is a new honor that highlights the player who makes the best catch of the week.

U.S. ARMY IRONMAN OF THE WEEK

Jackson (5-11, 200, Florida), in his second af2 season, was an impact player on defense and special teams for the Macon Knights in the team's impressive 62-35 Week 11 home win against Arkansas. The former Gator scored two touchdowns on the night, one on a 47-yard missed field goal return and one on an 18-yard interception return. He finished with 152 all-purpose yards (74 MFG return yards, 60 KR yards, 18 INT return yards). Jackson also had a game-high 8.5 tackles (8 solo, 1 assisted) on defense and one pass breakup. He was elected to the American Conference All-af2 First Team in 2005. This is the second Ironman of the Week honor of Jackson's career. He also earned the award in Week 11 of last season.

SCHUTT OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Dietz (6-4, 220, Hanover) was on fire for Louisville in the team's 79-69 upset victory over the No.1-ranked Spokane Shock in Week 11. The rookie signal caller pleased the home crowd at Freedom Hall with his best individual effort of the season. Dietz had a hand in 10 of the Fire's 11 total touchdowns, throwing for eight and rushing for two. The former Hanover Panther completed 25-of-34 passes for 259 yards with no interceptions. Dietz currently leads the league in completion percentage (71.3) and ranks second in pass efficiency (126.2). This is the first Offensive Player of the Week Award of Dietz' career.

ADT DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Turner (6-3, 270, Tennessee Tech), a two-year af2 veteran, was a menace up front for Bakersfield in the team's 55-32 road win in Week 11 against the Tennessee Valley Vipers. The former Tennessee Tech Golden Eagle had his best showing of the season with 4.0 total tackles, including a season-high 3.0 sacks. He also recorded a forced fumble. This is the second Defensive Player of the Week Award of Turner's career. He also won the award in Week 2 of 2004 as a member of the Birmingham Steeldogs.

CUTTERS CATCH OF THE WEEK

Tulsa wide receiver/defensive back Don McGee (5-11, 200, North Texas), who is in first full season in the af2, is the Week 11 recipient of the Cutters Catch of the Week Award, a weekly honor that has emerged this year to highlight the player who makes the best catch of the week. McGee's catch was a game-winning 28-yard touchdown grab off a Hail Mary pass from QB Mark Radlinski with no time left on the clock. The catch propelled the Talons past their heated in-state rivals, the Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz, 59-58. McGee actually caught the ball off a rebound from teammate Zac Jones. Jones made what looked to be the catch to win the game, but when the ball came off the net into his hands, he was immediately drilled by Oklahoma City defenders and the ball popped loose. McGee was on the spot and alert, diving to catch the ball just before it hit the ground. The catch capped a great night for McGee. The former North Texas standout had five catches for 56 yards and three touchdowns, 88 kick return yards, four tackles and two pass breakups. Others receiving consideration this week included Louisville's Rob Mager, Albany's Thomas Anthony, Macon's Chavis McCollister, Birmingham's Allyn Sheffield, Quad City's Tim Dodge, Bakersfield's Rennard Reynolds, Green Bay's Brent Holmes, Amarillo's Gathan McGinnis and Central Valley's James Lewis.
