ARENAFOOTBALL2 ANNOUNCES 2001 DIVISIONAL ALIGNMENT

CHICAGO - The arenafootball2 League Office unveiled its 2001 divisional alignment today, announced Executive Director Mary Ellen Garling. The American and National Conference will consist of two divisions containing fourteen teams each. The 2001 schedule will be officially released on Friday, December 8.
The American Conference will be made up of the Northeast and Southeast divisions. The Northeast division will consist of Rochester, NY; Norfolk Nighthawks; Roanoke Steam; Richmond Speed; Carolina Rhinos; Charleston Swamp Foxes, and the Greensboro Prowlers.
The seven teams making up the Southeast division will all come from the state of Georgia and Florida. The Macon Knights, Augusta Stallions, and Columbus will all represent Georgia, while the Pensacola Barracudas, Tallahassee Thunder, Florida Firecats, and Jacksonville Tomcats will all battle for the top spot in the Southeast representing the state of Florida.
The South Central and Midwest divisions will make up the National Conference of af2. ArenaCup runner-up Tennessee Valley Vipers heads up the South Central division along with Baton Rouge, LA; Arkansas Twisters; Birmingham Steeldogs; Memphis Xplorers; Bossier City Battle Wings and the Lafayette Roughnecks.
The defending ArenaCup champion Quad City Steamwheelers highlight the Midwest division. The Peoria Pirates, Lincoln Lightning, Tulsa Talons, Louisville, KY; Wichita, KS and the Iowa Barnstormers round out the Midwest.
Training camp dates along with the playoff format will all be announced this Friday, December 8 with the 2001 season schedule. The second season of af2 will again be highlighted with ArenaCup II, which will be televised nationally on The National Network ("TNN") in August.
