Published on August 3, 2017 under National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) News Release
Rosemont, IL (August 2, 2017) - Monica Abbott was nearly perfect with a Scrap Yard Dawgs first no hitter in program history with only one hit by pitch and 18 strikeouts! This was Abbott's fourth no hitter in her professional career.
The Dawgs came out swinging in the top of the first scoring two runs off a bases loaded single from Britt Vonk.
A solo shot by Brittany Cervantes in the third extends the Dawgs lead to three.
After a lead off base hit from Allexis Bennett, a single up the middle from Cervantes advances Bennett to third. A sac fly to left from Taylor Edwards scores Bennett making it 4-0.
Another lead off base hit from Bennett and a walk drawn by Nerissa Myers gives the Dawgs two runners on in the top of the 7th. Cervantes hits into a fielder's choice catching Myers at second putting runners on first and third with Edwards up.
Edwards hits another sac fly, this time in right field foul territory, to score Bennett from third.
With three more strikeouts Abbott ends the game in style.
