ABA offers support for Oklahoma Indian State Basketball Tournament

Indianapolis, IN. The American Basketball Association (ABA) has offered its support of The First Annual Oklahoma Men's and Women's Indian State Basketball Tournament to be held March 21st-23rd and takes place in Norman, Oklahoma at the Norman Optimist Club Basketball Facility. Some of the best Native American athletes in the country will be present, each vying for the right to be called the best. Notable basketball players in attendance will be: Vegas Davis Navajo (University of Tennessee), Mike Chavez Crow (University of Montana) Richard Dionne Sioux (Nebraska Carney) James Benson Mississippi Choctaw (Virginia Commonwealth) and a host of many other talented and athletic Native American basketball players.

Competition will be extremely fierce as basketball teams from Washington State, Arizona, New Mexico, Florida, New York, Montana, Utah, Texas, Kansas, Nebraska and Iowa mix it up with some of the best independent teams in Oklahoma. First place for the Women's division includes Jackets and two thousand dollars ($2,000). Half time entertainment will be provided by Native American singers and dancers. Vendors specializing in Native American arts and crafts will be on hand as well. Free admission for all scouts and coaches.

"We have wanted to have a Native American team in the ABA," said Joe Newman. Hopefully this great event will be the first step towards accomplishing that."
