ABA goes to Brooklyn, NY in 2005

Published on September 20, 2004 under American Basketball Association (ABA) News Release

Indianapolis, IN. Joe Newman, ABA Co-Founder, today announced that the professional basketball league will add a team in Brooklyn, NY in 2005. According to Newman, "Brooklyn is a hotbed of basketball as can be evidenced by the fact that the NBA is planning to move there. We have had great interest also and were waiting for the right group. We've found them."

The team will be co-owned by Marsha Blount, VP/Co-owner of McFarlane & Blount Enterprises dba Re-Bath of the Bronx, NY - a company that does one day bathroom renovation -"America's Largest One-Day Bath Remodeler," and Coach Sherman Givens, Head Coach of the Brooklyn Blaze in the Eastern Basketball Association. Ms. Blount was formerly a point guard at Queens College in New York and was nationally ranked in assists, played for several traveling AAU and semi-professional leagues and has coached several national women's teams.

She added, "We're very excited about being a part of the ABA. We like the fast-paced, high scoring style of play - but mostly importantly, unlike the NBA, our ticket prices are affordable - and we'll be able to attract kids, students, parents with kids, the military, firemen, policemen, senior citizens and others who love basketball but can't afford high ticket prices." And Coach Givens concluded, "And judging from the talent I've seen in the area already, I don't think fans will see much difference between our players and the NBA's. We have some fabulous talent identified, with players very familiar to people in NY, LI and NJ who follow basketball."
