ABA Coming to South Jersey in 2010

November 12, 2009 - American Basketball Association (ABA) News Release

Indianapolis, IN. The American Basketball Association (ABA) today announced that it will add a team in South Jersey next season. According to Joe Newman, ABA CEO, "We've been looking for the perfect owners to link our New York area teams to those to the south of them and in Joannie and Artie Clear, we have found them. Artie Clear, a New Jersey businessman, is an encyclopedia of sports, recently dubbed by Beryl Wolk, the world famous marketer, as "The Dean of Sports Trivia."

Artie currently hosts the Artie Clear Show on WJNC 1360 Radio in Sewell, New Jersey, known as "2 Hours of Sports Power." "This is the culmination of a dream come true," stated Clear. "I played football, baseball and basketball in high school and am a world class pocket billiards player, but basketball is my passion and my real joy in life is sports. I never thought that Joannie and I would have a chance to own a team. We are thrilled to be a part of this incredible league."

"Our heart's desire is to revive and bring the ABA back to South Jersey in a big way," added Joannie. We understand all of the various components of operating a professional sports team - both on and off the court. It starts with putting together a strong group of people to handle all of these things and that is Artie's and my first priority. Then, we need to find a great venue, put together a top-flight web site, and begin our marketing/business program. We will keep very busy. Oh, and I'm happy the SETX Mustangs changed to the SETX Mavericks, because we're going to be known as The New Jersey Mustangs."
