ABA Champ Frost Heaves, brand-new Millrats, to play at Hartford High
October 11, 2007 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Saint John Riptide News Release
The 2007 ABA Champion Vermont Frost Heaves and the fledgling Manchester (N.H.) Millrats will meet in a preseason game at Hartford (Vt.) High School on Saturday, October 27, at 4 p.m.
"We're delighted that another ABA team has landed on our border," said Frost Heaves president and G.M. Alexander Wolff. "With his grasp of both New England and basketball, [Millrats owner and G.M. and former Champlain College player] Ian McCarthy is the perfect person to bring pro hoops to New Hampshire. Together we're looking forward to exposing fans throughout the Upper Connecticut River Valley to the fan-friendly, affordable ABA product."
"Vermont is the model franchise that we are attempting to emulate in Manchester," said McCarthy. "Not only did they do a great job of garnering fan support statewide, but they also won the ABA Championship in their inaugural season. This will be a great experience for our players and Coach [Larry] Lessett to see the level of intensity we'll need to compete in the ABA."
The Frost Heaves have several Upper Valley connections, including head coach Will Voigt, a former soccer coach at Thetford (Vt.) Academy; and strength and conditioning coach Scott Caulfield, a movement specialist at the River Valley Club in Lebanon, N.H. The Millrats, the lone pro basketball team in New Hampshire, feature several Granite Staters.
Admission will be $5 for adults and $3 for kids 14 and under, and all tickets will be sold at the door. The Hartford High School gym is at 37 Highland Avenue in White River Junction, Vt.
Representatives of the Frost Heaves and the Millrats will participate in a press conference at the River Valley Club, behind Centerra on Route 120 in Lebanon, at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 18.
The Frost Heaves will split their 18 home games evenly between Barre and Burlington, with their Barre opener scheduled for Thursday night, Nov. 15, and Burlington debut set for Sunday afternoon, Nov. 18. Season tickets may be purchased online at vermontfrostheaves.com or by calling 802-860-0082.
The Millrats will play their inaugural season at Southern New Hampshire University in Manchester. Their season and home opener is set for Sunday afternoon, Nov. 11, versus the Boston Blizzard. Season and half-season ticket plans are on sale at manchestermillrats.com, or by calling (866) 9 GET TIX.
