August 2, 2010 - All American Hockey League (AAHL) News Release
Battle Creek, MI - The All American Hockey League (AAHL) has announced that its Board of Governors has accepted the membership application for an expansion team in Madison, Wisconsin.
The team will begin play this coming season and play its home games out of the 3,500-seat Hartmeyer Ice Arena in Madison.
"We are very excited to bring a team back to the Mad City" said AAHL commissioner Rod Davidson. "We want to bring the team back to Hartmeyer and do pro hockey right."
The Madison Ice Muskies is led by AAHL Commissioner Rod Davidson as the operator of the team. Details about the organizations ownership will be released soon.
"I am excited about the upcoming hockey season in the beautiful city of Madison and are fortunate to have established a great working relationship with (Hartmeyer Arena Executive Director) Gary Shuchuk and all the people of Hartmeyer Arena," said Davidson.
"We look forward to the challenge of bringing pro hockey in Madison to its rightful glory. Our goal is to produce a competitive team and one that Madison will be proud to support."
Davidson, a Brantford, Ontario native, has been involved in hockey for years as a player, coach, scout and general manager. He enjoyed a professional coaching career, most notably in the CHL with the Indianapolis Ice winning a CHL Championship in 2000.
Madison is the fourth AAHL team to call the league its home, joining the Battle Creek Revolution, Chi-Town Shooters and the West Michigan Blizzard.
"The addition of Madison really brings a great hockey hot bed like Wisconsin into our league again" said Ryan Harrison, the AAHL's League Administrator.
"Not only does the addition of Madison strengthen our footprint to the west, it brings more opportunities for players in a region that year after year develops some of the brightest young collegiate and professional prospects," said Harrison.
"More information on other expansion plans within the All American Hockey League is expected very soon" stated Ryan Harrison. "Look for a 5-6 team league when we drop the puck on October 22nd."
