Battle Creek Revolution News Release
Battle Creek, MI - The All-American Hockey League's free agent camp is fast approaching. The camp is designed to give players aspiring to play professional hockey a place to showcase their talents with a series of scrimmages. At the end of the camp, each team in the AAHL will draft five (5) players, who will be invited to their respective team's training camp in October.
The AAHL's free agent camp has been announced for a few short weeks, yet the spots are filling up quickly. The camp is going to consist of four (4) teams made up of twelve (12) forwards, nine (9) defensemen, and three (3) goalies. Matt Wiedenhoeft, the camp director, stated, "This camp is filling up quickly and with great response from players around the world." He continued, "The goal that the league and I set was to sell it out, the goal is in clear sight with still over two and half months left until the camp. Player registrations are coming in fast, making spots more limited on a daily basis."
Matt Wiedenhoeft also said this on the players signing up, "The players in this camp will have a legitimate chance to make a team they are selected for. The players signing up are quality players from all areas of junior and college hockey." The camp is the best way to get an invite for players coming out of juniors or college. "I am using this camp to find five players, at minimum, to come to my camp and fill my roster with," stated Bob Clouston, the head coach of the B.C. Revolution. He continued, "I take this camp seriously in my recruiting, as I keep my camps small and am definitely looking for players for season from this camp. Last season, one of my goalies came of this camp, and three of my other players came from my own free agent camp."
The AAHL has held this free agent camp over the first two seasons of existence. In doing so, some top players in the league have come from it. Most notably, are Aaron Naphan (Evansville), Brad Bohlinger (Evansville), and Matt Kinsella (Battle Creek). All three of these players were selected to the AAHL's All-Star game in the 2009-10 season. Matt Kinsella was called up to the Flint Generals of the IHL during the season as well. "I wasn't sure what to expect when I got drafted last year, I surely didn't expect a real chance to play," stated Kinsella. He finished with, "not only did I play and become an all-star, I got the call to go to Flint."
All players interested in signing up for the AAHL free agent camp can do so on the league website. The camp includes, two (2) nights in hotel, four (4) full-length games, an assigned locker-room for the weekend, an AAHL logo jersey, and a buffet style meal on Saturday, all for a cost of $300.
