Louisville Fire News Release

Louisville, KY - The Louisville Fire (2-4) hosted the Albany Conquest (4-2) at Freedom Hall in a heated division match-up as the Fire looked to improve their overall standing while making an early push for possible play-off contention. The Fire started the game by deferring reception of the game kick-off until the beginning of the second half. Even though the Fire started the game on defense, it did not take them long to go on the offensive. With 14:30 remaining in the first quarter, the Fire recovered a Conquest fumble for a drive resulting in the first points scored in the contest by the Fire. The first quarter ended in a defensive battle with the Conquest leading the Fire 7-6. The Fire's six points came from a QB Brett Dietz to WR Lance Taylor.

Continuing the defensive battle in the second quarter, QB Dietz found his favorite target of WR Rob Mager for a 9-yard passing touchdown. The game appeared to be on autopilot until the remaining three minutes. With 2:41 left in the second quarter, K Vinny Cirrincione connected on a 23-yard field goal allowing the Conquest to gain some ground. Once the Fire gained possession, it took them a little more than two minutes to drive down the field giving QB Dietz an opportunity to find his target in WR Mager. Shortly after the Fire score, the Conquest answered back with a two-yard run by Ryan Vena cutting into the Fire lead once again.

At the beginning of the third quarter QB Dietz connected with WR Mager for a 41-yard touchdown extending their lead. It wasn't until halfway through the quarter that the Conquest would answer back with a passing touchdown from QB Vena to WR Manwel Talbert. QB Dietz used another option in WR Dennis Fryzel on a 3-yard touchdown pass score. The Conquest ended the third quarter with a 23-yard pass from QB Vena to WR Antwun Williams.

The fourth quarter set the stage for the return of the volatile "Partners of Pyro" QB Dietz and WR Mager. After a Fire passing touchdown from QB Dietz to WR Taylor and a responsive score from Conquest QB Vena to WR Jamarr Ward the Fire went to work. With 4:40 left in the game the Fire capitalized on a scoring opportunity continued to pull away from the Conquest. After the Fire score the Conquest had an opportunity to tie it up. The Fire defense was too much resulting in a turnover on downs. With 17 seconds left in the game, QB Dietz fired a fireball of a pass to WR Mager driving the final score to 51-38.
