A Letter from Head Coach Bear Davis
Sheen Nation -
THANK YOU for being the VERY best fans in Major League Lacrosse. Your support of our guys is what makes leading this team such a privilege and honor. As you know, we strive to be the very best organization, both on the field and off, in all of Major League Lacrosse. This is the standard that we have set and is what we expect of ourselves. Unfortunately, we clearly fell short of our expectations this season.
I want you to know that the work required for us to get back to the level of excellence that we expect, has already begun, and I promise you that everyone associated with this organization - our coaches, players, athletic trainers, front office staff - will be relentless in our offseason pursuit of excellence that we have set as the standard.
As this process begins, I feel it important to recognize some of the bright spots that stood out in this challenging season. First, was the impressive play by our youngest players. Often forced into situations ahead of schedule, this group of young men stepped up and delivered, getting better each week. Ben Randall, Justin Guterding, Kenny Massa, Bryce Wasserman, Ryan Keenan and Bryce Young all received valuable playing time and were responsible for 33% of the team's points this past season as well as 58% of the caused turnovers. Simply put, these kids can ball. Although the Sheen youth movement is real, our veterans - highlighted by two-time league MVP Tom Schreiber - will still dictate the tone of our team. This is the group that led us to our first championship and will do so again.
Finally, it is a fact that our commitment to growing the game in the region has never been stronger. The creation of the Ohio Machine Lacrosse Foundation late last year continues to plant the seeds for growth, seen most recently with the funding of a full-time season lacrosse instructor with Columbus Recreation and Parks this summer, which introduced the game to hundreds of kids at over 14 different community centers. Couple this with our annual events, such as our lacrosse convention, Central Ohio Youth Lacrosse League, youth all-star games, and high school showcase, it is clear to see that the roots are starting to run deep.
At the end of the day we are committed to being the very best in all that we take on. We do so for you. Thank you for your continued support of Ohio Machine Lacrosse and we look forward to celebrating more success in the coming year.
