TAMPA, FL â United Soccer Leagues announced the A-League Team of the Week and Player of the Week for the 19th week of the season today. Montreal's Patrice Bernier was selected as the Player of the Week for outstanding performances in a two-game Western Conference road swing.
The Impact downed Canadian rivals Calgary and Vancouver Friday and Sunday, respectively, to win the first-ever Voyageurs Cup, a fan-awarded cup that is presented to the top Canadian club by Canada's national soccer fan club, the Voyageurs, at the conclusion of a selected series of regular season matches.
Leading the way to the two victories was Patrice Bernier.
Bernier opened the weekend with assists on all three goals in Friday night's 3-1 win over the Storm. Sebrango scored in the 21st for a 1-0 halftime lead. Tied 1-1, Ze Roberto and Nick DeSantis scored in the closing moments to give Montreal the victory.
Two nights later, Montreal secured the Voyageurs Cup and pulled level with the Rochester Raging Rhinos in the Northeast Division championship race with a commanding 3-0 win at Swangard Stadium over the Whitecaps.
Bernier set up Roberto for the opening marker in the 27th minute and then notched one of his own in the 62nd to give the Impact a 2-0 lead.
Following a throw-in by Giuliano Oliviero on the left side, Bernier ran along the 18-yard line and beat Larkin on the near side with a low shot that grazed the post before going in.
The Voyageurs will present the Voyageurs Cup trophy to the Montreal Impact at their last home game of the season on September 1.
