Mavericks Sign Goaltender John Griggs and Forward Erik Higby

Independence, Missouri - Sept. 24, 2014 - The Missouri Mavericks announced Wednesday afternoon the signing of goaltender John Griggs and forward Erik Higby to standard player contracts ahead of the Mavs' 2014 training camp.

"John Griggs is a proven goaltender who will be attending training camp with our American Hockey League affiliate, the Chicago Wolves," noted Matvichuk of the newest net minder addition. "Having seen him in action during last year's CHL Playoffs, we know we've added a strong presence between the pipes."

John Griggs, a 26-year-old 6'1" goaltender from Barrington, IL finished the 2013-14 season with the Denver Cutthroats, holding onto a .925 save percentage, a 2.24 goals-against average (GAA), and a 10-1 (W-L) through 11 regular season starts. Griggs made 2 post-season appearances for the Cutthroats.

"Erik Higby is a hard-working and gritty player," said Missouri Mavericks Head Coach Richard Matvichuk. "He will be attending the San Antonio Rampage's training camp this fall, which speaks volumes toward his potential in hockey."

Higby, 25, of New Braunfels, TX spent the last four years playing with Northern Michigan University, tallying 11 goals, 6 assists, and 15 penalty minutes his senior year. Prior to his university career, Higby put up impressive numbers with the Topeka Roadrunners of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) - a Junior A hockey league- with 27 goals and 53 assists through 57 games during the 2009-10 season.
