Sockers Defy the Odds, At a Loss Once Again
11/19/13 - The San Diego Sockers have now lost four games in a calendar year after falling 6-5 to the Monterrey Flash in shootouts. While the loss drops the Sockers to a still unbelievable 58-8 all-time in the regular season, it also makes them 0-2 in games decided by shootouts, which is more amazing when you consider there have only been two games in PASL history that have gone to shootouts.
San Diego fell to 0-2 while Monterrey improved to 4-0 with wins in San Diego and Tijuana over the weekend. The Sockers have an early three game deficit in the Pacific Division behind 4-0 Las Vegas.
Player of the Week
Erick Tovar, Monterrey Flash
This Flash rookie forward is celebrating his 23rd birthday today, but he has already been a gift for Monterrey. Tovar scored the overtime game-winning goal in Monterrey's home opener before a PASL-record crowd of 9,627 in his first PASL game. This weekend he scored a combined four goals and two assists in the Flash's two wins. On Saturday he had two goals and an assist, plus the game-winning shootout in the third round, and on Sunday he had two goals and an assist and was credited with the game winning goal there, too. Though shootout goals don't count in the totals, he effectively has three game-winning goals in four games.

Legends Have the Power
The Las Vegas Legends have had the most power play opportunities in the league and they also have the higher power play conversion percentage. The Legends have been successful on 10 of 16 power plays. Felipe Gonzalez scored four power play goals Saturday against Wichita and leads the PASL on the season with five.
Let's Go Streaking
The Illinois Piasa have lost 10 straight on the road after falling 15-2 in Chicago Saturday. The Sacramento Surge lost 9-1 in Ontario and are 0-10 lifetime on the road.
US Open Update
The Dallas Sidekicks dispatched the PASL-Premier Austin Sidekicks 16-5 and now will face the Hidalgo La Fiera in the next round of the US Open Arena Soccer Championships. The independent Tulsa Tea Men beat the PASL-Premier Vitesse Dallas and now will face the Tulsa Revolution.
Looking Ahead
Two games have particular significance this week. The Sockers (0-2) travel to the Turlock Express (2-0) and look to jump start their season, but a loss could put them in an early hole. The Legends (4-0) travel to the Ontario Fury (2-0) in a big Pacific Division battle of unbeaten teams.
