CHICAGO (April 17, 2013) - Sky Blue FC goalkeeper Brittany Cameron was voted the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) Player of the Week by the media for week one of the 2013 NWSL season.
Cameron recorded the first shutout in league history as Sky Blue FC defeated the Western New York Flash 1-0 on Sunday at Yurcak Field in Piscataway, N.J., to secure the first victory in NWSL history.
The Dublin, Calif., native faced 16 shots, six shots on goal and made an impressive five saves on the day - including a 16th-minute stop on a penalty kick by WNY Flash forward Adriana Martin.
In the waning moments of the match, Cameron made a key play coming off her line to defend WNY Flash striker Abby Wambach. Cameron closed in on Wambach and dove towards her feet and forced Wambach's shot just over the cross bar.
Sky Blue FC will return to action in two weeks against the Washington Spirit at the Maryland Soccerplex Stadium on Saturday, April 27 at 7 p.m. ET.
The NWSL Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season by a selection of journalists that cover the league on a consistent basis.
