Charlotte Eagles News Release

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Charleston Battery travel to Charlotte for their third consecutive road game on Friday night, April 30, at 7 PM. The game will be played at Winthrop stadium in Rock Hill, SC.

Charleston played host to the Eagles on April 9 in the first USL PRO game for both teams, and though the Eagles played a great game, an own goal gave Charleston the win. Charleston went on to defeat the Dayton Dutch Lions, though Richmond broke the Battery's winning streak this past Saturday night with a goal in the 90th minute lifting the Kickers to a 2-1 win.

The Eagles continue to be optimistic about their season despite not having scored a goal in three games.

"We have played three very tough matches so far," Coach Mark Steffens said. "Even though we have not had great results, the team is coming together. We are growing stronger and more unified through this difficult start. I hope it bodes well for games in the future."

Traditionally the Eagles have a very strong defense, and they will need to build off that and find the right mix up front to score goals.

"I am proud of our overall team defending; now we need to start attacking with more urgency," Steffens added. "The rematch with Charleston will be important for our confidence in attack. Overall, I feel we are headed in the right direction."

The Eagles organization is excited that the match will be played at Winthrop University.

"Winthrop's soccer-specific stadium is a great venue for watching professional soccer," Charlotte GM Tom Engstrom said. "The fans have an opportunity to be near the action. The experience will be well worth the short trip for Charlotte's faithful. It is also a great opportunity for those in Rock Hill who do not get to experience soccer at this level."
