Gainesville Galaxy Joins Continental Basketball League
April 11, 2011 - Continental Basketball League (CBL) News Release
The Continental Basketball League is pleased to announce the addition of the Gainesville Galaxy to its roster of teams. Director of Basketball Operations Gary Perry made the announcement on Monday.
The Galaxy are owned by local entreprenuer and former middle school principal Kristine Anderson. Anderson also served as the General Manager of the ABA's Florida Makos during the 2010-2011 campaign.
Anderson said of her acceptance into the CBL, "This is such a great opportunity for myself, my players and the community of Gainesville. I became passionate about this level of professional basketball after working as a stand in General Manager and Marketing Director for the Florida Makos. I loved the concept of, and the organization within, the Continental Basketball League and wanted to own my own franchise in the CBL. Gainesville is a great basketball market and the Gainesville Galaxy look forward to bringing a quality product and a whole new brand of entertainment to the community through this connection with the CBL."
The Galaxy's home games will be played at the Martin Luther King Jr Recreation Center in Gainesville. The team will be coached by Donte Hill and assisted by Bobby Welch and Chris McCoy. The Galaxy will retain players from the ABA's Florida Makos with Michael Welch, Cori Gaither, Brandon Armistead, Fredrick Meeks, Tyre Stevenson, Rasheed Pratt, and Thomas "TD" Harris. Tryouts to fill the team's remaining spots will be held on April 20th at the Newberry Sports Complex.
