Charleston Battery Signs Jamaicans Dane Kelly and Evan Taylor

Charleston, SC. The Charleston Battery has agreed to terms with Jamaican forward Dane Kelly and midfielder Evan Taylor for the upcoming USL PRO season. Kelly joins the Battery from JPL side Tivoli Gardens while Taylor arrives from the JPL's Reno F.C. Both players participated in the recent Carolina Challenge Cup matches versus Major League Soccer. Both Kelly and Taylor sign subject to USSF approval.

Dane Kelly played in the Wednesday match versus Major League Soccer's Toronto FC scoring the Battery's first goal and drawing the penalty that led to the winning goal. Kelly came off the bench on Saturday night in the 0-0 tie against the Chicago Fire.

Kelly, 5-11, 150 lbs., 20 yrs., is a native of St Catherine, Jamaica and led the U21 JPL league in scoring this past season with 15 goals.

Head Coach Mike Anhaeuser commented "We saw Dane on our recruiting visit to Jamaica and after seeing him play we started negotiations with his club to bring him up as we felt that he was going to be a great prospect and forward for our team in the upcoming season. He is young and has lots of potential."

Central-midfielder Evan Taylor also played in the matches versus Toronto FC and the Chicago Fire.

A native of Savanna-la-Mar, Jamaica, Taylor 6-0, 160 lbs., 22 yrs., has earned 10 caps for the Jamaican national team including World Cup qualifiers versus Mexico, Canada and the Bahamas.

Head Coach Anhaeuser stated "Evan comes to us via the same the club as O'Brian Woodbine; he is a solid midfielder with a large upside as he has played at a very high level with the Jamaican national team and youth national team."

Charleston Battery head coach Mike Anhaeuser spotted both players this past January on a scouting trip to Jamaica.
