Harrisburg, PA - Indoor football has always been a game that was built for size and speed. The successful teams had it and those that weren't, wanted it. Now, the Harrisburg Stampede have it, after signing 6' 6", 225 lb. Wide Receiver Vernon Huger for the 2010 season.
A Charleston, South Carolina native, Vernon Huger comes to Harrisburg with high hopes of bringing new energy and excitement to team. While attending Charleston Southern University, he realized that playing football was his true passion in life and decided to focus his energy on making his dream come true.
Following his senior season on the gridiron and graduating with his degree in Athletic Training and Business Administration, Huger moved on to play with the Georgia Force of the AFL. In his time with the Force, he garnered attention from various teams including a few NFL franchises.
However, with the recent folding of the AFL, he found himself a free agent again. That is, until he got a phone call from Harrisburg Stampede Head Coach Ramon Robinson, with an invitation to keep his dream alive.
With another chance to become an impact player, Vernon Huger will come to Harrisburg, where he will call the "Pennsylvania Farm Show Arena" his new home.
Luckily for the Stampede, Vernon has said that adapting his outdoor style to the indoor game has not been too difficult of a transition. "You have to get used to the speed, style and language of the arena game, but once you do adjust to that, it makes everything else much easier."
Head Coach Ramon Robinson thinks that Huger will be a major role player for the team this season. He said, "Vernon is going to bring a lot to the table including size and leadership. He has a presence, both on and off the field, and his size and speed remind me of [Denver Broncos Star Wide Receiver] Brandon Marshall. Vernon is one heck of a ball player and we are very glad that we got him here in Harrisburg."
This "Big-Time" receiver has set high expectations for himself and the Stampede in 2010. Huger said, "It is a team game, and all of us are good at what we do, so I expect to win. I feel like those are my expectations, my coach's expectations and my team's expectations."
