Missoula PaddleHeads News Release
MISSOULA, MT - Michael Belfiore, one of the Arizona Diamondbacks' picks in the Supplemental 1st round of the 2009 MLB Draft, is scheduled to make his professional pitching debut with the Missoula Osprey on Thursday at Ogren Park Allegiance Field.
Belfiore, a left-hander who was the closer for Boston College this past spring, will pitch an inning sometime during the game, in support of starter Eury De La Rosa.
The First-team ABCA All-America selection as a pitcher, and second-team pick as a utility player, Belfiore helped the Eagles advance to their first NCAA Championship appearance in 42 years this past spring. He was also a semifinalist for the 2009 Stopper of the Year award, and named an All-ACC second-team performer.
The D-Backs see Belfiore as a starter, and will be brought along slowly, with the goal of adding him to the starting rotation in Missoula before the end of the season. In his longest relief outing of his career, Belfiore went 9 2/3 innings in the longest game in NCAA history, a 25-inning tilt with Texas during NCAA Regional play this past May. Belfiore allowed just three hits and struck out 11 to help preserve the tie.
Tickets for all Osprey home games are available now by calling the Osprey at (406) 543-3300, stopping by the Osprey Team Store at 412 W. Alder and online at www.missoulaosprey.com.
