Philadelphia KiXX News Release
Philadelphia, PA, January 5, 2006 - The Philadelphia KiXX announced today that the club has agreed to terms with veteran midfielder Gary DePalma for the remainder of the 2005-06 season. Philadelphia reacquired the rights to the Pittsburgh native in the 2005 Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) Dispersal Draft that was held via teleconference on September 22, 2005. Per League policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
DePalma, who will make his season debut versus the California Cougars on Monday, January 16, donned a KiXX uniform for both the 2001-02 and the 2002-03 campaigns. With Philadelphia, the five-year veteran registered 108 points in 80 appearances, was an integral member of the 2002 championship squad and earned his only all-star recognition during the 2002-03 season.
The 29-year-old midfielder began his professional indoor career with the Detroit Rockers of the National Professional Soccer League (NPSL) in 1999 and was named to the All-Rookie Team after tallying 33 points in 42 games. After two seasons with the Rockers and two in Philadelphia, DePalma was selected by the St. Louis Steamers in the 2004 MISL Expansion Draft, but was later dealt via a three-team deal to the Cleveland Force prior to the 2004-05 campaign. With the Force last season, he recorded 27 points (11 goals, 16 assists) in 39 regular-season contests and then added a pair of goals and one assist for three points in the club's four playoff dates.
The Virginia Wesleyan college graduate was a two-time Division III All-American and also earned Conference Player of the Year recognition for his play during his senior season.
In other news, the team announced that they have placed Damien Pottinger on waivers for the purpose of termination.
The club rings in the New Year versus former player/coach Omid Namazi and the St. Louis Steamers on Saturday, January 7. Game-time at the Wachovia Spectrum is slated for 7:05 pm ET. Mini-plans, Family 4-PaXX, birthday packages, group discounts and single-game tickets are on sale now by calling the club's ticket office at 1-888-888-KiXX (5499).
