Groundbreaking Ceremony Set for June 14

The Groundbreaking Ceremony for the Rio Rancho Events Center, the new home for the New Mexico Scorpions, will take place on Tuesday, June 14, at 10 a.m. in Rio Rancho. The Groundbreaking Ceremony will be hosted by Rio Rancho City Manager Jim Palenick, and will include Rio Rancho Mayor Jim Owen, Scorpions Owner W.D. "Doug" Frank, and other dignitaries.

The site for the Groundbreaking Ceremony is on Unser Blvd. in Rio Rancho, approximately 2.5 miles north of Northern Blvd. The Rio Rancho Events Center will have a capacity of about 6,500 seats for hockey, and is scheduled to open in time for the Scorpions Season beginning in October 2006. The Rio Rancho Events Center will be a state of the art arena, and will include Luxury Suites, Club Seats, Loge Seats and an indoor/outdoor Lounge, which will have an outdoor patio that will look out to the Sandia Mountains. The Rio Rancho Events Center also will be the home for the Scorpions Front Office, which will overlook the ice inside the arena. The Rio Rancho Events Center will be host to many other events througout the year, and it is anticipated it will be the busiest Events Center throughout the State. Seating Capacity for concerts is expected to be over 8,000.

The Groundbreaking Ceremony will include information about Season Ticket Packages and Corporate Sponsorships, as well as other information about the Events Center. The new Rio Rancho Events Center will be a major part of a new downtown Rio Rancho complex, which also will inlcude the new Rio Rancho City Hall, a multiplex theater, as well as many retail shops and restaurants.
