36'ers not ready to play this season

October 28, 2006 - American Basketball Association (ABA) News Release

Indianapolis, IN. After carefully reviewing the progress being made by the ABA South Georgia 36'ers scheduled to begin play in Albany, Georgia, the ABA decided that the team was not ready to play this season - and asked owner Stephanie Roach if she would be willing to wait to play next season. After reviewing the progress made there, Ms. Roach agreed and said, "The best thing for my organization and the City would be to wait to play next year. We will not suspend operations, however, because my work begins today - and when November '07 rolls around, we will be ready."

According to Joe Newman, ABA CEO, "We have had another record-setting year of expansion. We are monitoring every team very closely and want to be sure that every team that starts the season, completes the season - and has a successful profitable season. When we see a situation that creates some doubts, we feel it is better not to begin. Stephanie Roach is one of our great owners. We have tremendous respect for her and how she operates. She moved her operation from Louisville to Albany and hoped to have more progress. While well received there, it has not moved as quickly as she and we hoped it would move. Waiting until next season is the good business decision. Stephanie has also offered to help some of the expansion teams during the season for which we are appreciative."
