
2022 Prospect League All-Stars & Award Winners Announced

ELKVILLE, Ill. - The Prospect League announced its 2022 Postseason All-Stars and award winners Monday morning. The all-star teams and awards were voted on by the league's 16 field managers.
The Danville Dans led the Eastern Conference with six all-stars, while the Alton River Dragons led the Western Conference with four all-stars.

The Prospect League's Mike Schmidt Player of the Year is Alton's Eddie King, Jr. The University of Louisville outfielder hit .310 with a league-best 15 home runs and 49 RBIs. A member of the River Dragons from Opening Day, King played in 49 games, making 48 starts. He slugged .632, and owned an on-base percentage of .440. King also stole 31 bases on 35 attempts.
The Roland Hemond Pro Prospect of the Year is Danville's Khal Stephen, from Purdue University. Stephen appeared in five games for the Dans. He recorded a 4-0 record and a 2.02 ERA. Over 26 2/3 innings, Stephen allowed six earned runs on 19 hits, walking four and striking out 36.
The Prospect League's starting pitcher of the year is Danville's Josh Leerssen of Birmingham Southern College. Leerssen appeared in 10 games, making 9 starts, earning a 5-0 record and compiling a 0.75 ERA. The right-hander allowed just four earned runs on 26 hits over 48 innings, walking 17 and striking out 67.
The Galen Woods Fireman of the Year, given to the league's top reliever each season, is Danville's Landon Tomkins of Louisiana Tech University. Tomkins appeared in 18 games, earning a 3-1 record and six saves for the Dans. Over 30 2/3 innings, Tomkins allowed just three earned runs on 21 hits, walking eight and striking out 40. The right-hander finished the season with a 0.88 ERA.
The 2022 Prospect League Manager of the Year is Danville's Eric Coleman. The veteran manager led the Dans to the Prospect League's best regular-season record at 40-17, winning the first and second halves of the Wabash River Division during the regular season. In the regular season, Danville led the league in walks (325), ranked third in batting average (.272), second in RBIs (409), second in runs scored (416), third in on-base percentage (.398) and third in slugging (.409). Danville's team ERA ranked second (4.41) and the team owned the second-best K/9 in the league at 10.15.
