2022 PHF All-Star Showcase Coming to Toronto
December 2, 2021 - Premier Hockey Federation (PHF) News Release
(Brooklyn, N.Y.) - The best players from across the Premier Hockey Federation are taking their talents to Toronto with today's announcement that the 2022 PHF All-Star Showcase will be played on Saturday, January 29 at 2:00 p.m. ET at York Canlan Sports, home of the Toronto Six.
"The PHF is defined by talent and skill which makes the All-Star event such a special part of our season and a unique experience for our athletes who get the recognition they deserve," said PHF Commissioner Tyler Tumminia. "It's only fitting that the PHF's new era introduces a new format that will showcase our phenomenal stars in our newest market and in front of passionate fans during this historical first season north of the border."
For the first time in PHF history the All-Star event will take place in Canada and feature a new format where athletes will compete among three teams in a round-robin series. Each of the three single-period games will include 10 minutes of 5-on-5 action followed by five minutes of 3-on-3 play and a shootout. All goals will count towards final game scores and the team with the best overall record (2-0), or best goal differential should all three teams be tied (1-1), will be crowned PHF All-Star champions.
The All-Star selection process will take place in three stages over the coming weeks. First, PHF players will be polled to determine three All-Star team captains. Second, PHF coaches from all six teams will identify 30 All-Star participants. And third, fans will vote to choose three final All-Star skaters and one extra goaltender. Once the entire pool of players is determined, a virtual draft will be conducted for all three captains to select their rosters of 12 for competition.
This will be the sixth All-Star event in PHF history with the first five played in Buffalo (2016), Pittsburgh (2017), Minnesota (2018), Nashville (2019), and Boston (2020).
The 2022 PHF All-Star Showcase will stream live in the United States exclusively on ESPN+, in Canada to TSN and TSN Direct subscribers, and through the ESPN International distribution network. All-Star logo and jerseys will be unveiled in the coming weeks along with merchandise available at phfproshop.com. Ticket information will also be announced at a later date.
