2019 MLL Week Four Recap

Published on June 24, 2019 under Major League Lacrosse (MLL) News Release

Boston, MA - Home field advantage was the name of the game in Week Four of the Major League Lacrosse season. Both the Atlanta Blaze and Boston Cannons enjoyed the comforts of home en route to impressive wins this weekend. The Blaze beat the Dallas Rattlers 13-11, while the Cannons beat the New York Lizards 18-11.

Dallas Rattlers at Atlanta Blaze

It was the Christopher Madalon show in Atlanta on Friday night. Madalon made an astounding 20 saves stymieing a determined Rattlers attack. Madalon's 20 saves is the most by a goalie this season. Offensively, Bryan Cole provided a huge spark scoring four goals. The former Maryland Terrapin has nine goals on the season, matching his career high. Shayne Jackson continued his fine play to start the season with a three goal performance. His season total is now in double digits at ten. The Blaze improve to 2-1 on the season.

As for the Dallas Rattlers, it's another week full of disappointment. The loss in Atlanta runs their record to 0-3. One good sign for the Rattlers, however, was the play of Blake Boudreau. Boudreau won 17 of 28 draws against first overall pick, Alex Woodall. On the offensive side, Ryan McNamara registered a hat trick while Brian Kormondy and Jack Curran put up multi-goal performances.

New York Lizards at Boston Cannons

Can anybody stop the Boston Cannons? A quarter of the way through the season, the Cannons are 3-0 and look to be among the league's most complete teams. Mark Cockerton continued his MVP caliber start scoring four times to increase his league lead with 12 goals on the young season. Connor O'Hara scored a career high four goals in the win.

Meanwhile, the Lizards simply can't catch a break. The loss drops their record to 0-4. Rob Pannell and Dylan Molloy played well, as usual, combining for five goals. The Lizards defense has some homework to do before they face the Rattlers on Saturday. The 18 goals allowed is tied for the most goals allowed in a game this season. Austin Kaut was the fall guy, pulled at the start of the fourth quarter in favor of Daniel Marino.

Looking ahead to Week Five, all six teams are in action this week beginning with the Rattlers and Denver Outlaws on Thursday Night from Mile High. The action continues Saturday with the Outlaws at Cannons and the Rattlers at the Lizards. Week Five concluded on Sunday with Atlanta Blaze taking on the Chesapeake Bayhawks in Annapolis.
