2019 MLL Week Five Preview

Published on June 28, 2019 under Major League Lacrosse (MLL) News Release

Boston, MA- Week Five kicked off Thursday night in Denver, when the Outlaws improved to 3-1 in a 15-9 win over the Dallas Rattlers. The Rattlers fell to 0-4 on the season. John Grant Jr. kicked off Week Five with a four goal performance including a spectacular, Sports Center Top 10 through the legs goal. Brendan Kavanagh added four goals of his own for the Outlaws.

Denver Outlaws at Boston Cannons

The Outlaws will have little time to celebrate the win, as they head to Boston to take on the Cannons on Saturday. The Cannons are off to a historic 3-0 start as they look to break an eight year championship drought. However, all three of the Cannon's wins come against the winless New York Lizards and Dallas Rattlers, so the Outlaws will present a new challenge for the Cannons.

This will be a battle on the ground. The Cannons and the Outlaws are currently ranked first and second in MLL when it comes to scooping up ground balls this season. The Cannons are number one at 48GB/game while the Outlaws are second at 41GB/game.

Dallas Rattlers at New York Lizards

The Rattlers and Lizards faceoff in a matchup of the winless. Both the Rattlers and Lizard are off to 0-4 starts, but still have plenty of time to turn it around. This will be a rematch of last year's playoff semi-final, which saw the Rattlers advance to the Championship Game with a hard-fought 15-12 win over the Lizards.

Both teams are currently at the bottom of the league, giving up over 14 goals per game. Whichever team can put up the most resistance on defense will end up with their first win of the season.

Atlanta Blaze Vs. Chesapeake Bayhawks

The Blaze hit the road on Saturday to take on the Bayhawks in their home opener in Annapolis. Both teams are off to good starts with the Blaze sitting at 2-1, while the Bayhawks are unbeaten at 2-0. Chris Madalon has been superb in goal for the Blaze in the early going. Madalon currently sits is second in MLL in both goals against average and save percentage. Meanwhile, Lyle Thompson is off to a flying start with 13 points in two games.

These are teams that regularly lend a helping hand. The Blaze and Bayhawks rank in the top two in assists per game. The Blaze lead MLL with 9.33 APG, while the Bayhawks are second with 8.50 APG.
