
2018 on Field Awards and Post Season All-Stars Announced

Oxnard, CA - The California League announced today its 2018 Field Awards and Post Season All-Star Team. Rick Magnante was named Manager of the Year. In his fourth year as manager in the Cal League, Magnante led his Stockton Ports to the First Half Championship in the North Division. Magnate is a former Scout with the A's who is credited with signing Barry Zito and Bobby Crosby.
Visalia pitching coach, Jeff Bajenaru, is the Cal League Coach of the Year for the second year in a row.
Bajenaru's pitchers are second in the league in ERA (3.72), WHIP (1.29), and strikeouts (1223). Bajenaru won a World Series Championship as a member of the Chicago White Sox.
Also for the second year in a row, the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes have the Cal League MVP as well as Rookie of the Year. Rylan Bannon, is being honored with both of those awards as well as being named to the Post Season All- Star Team. Bannon was traded to the Orioles as part of the Manny Machado trade earlier this season. The former Xavier University standout was hitting .296 with 20 HRs before being traded in July.
The Visalia Rawhide have the Pitcher of the Year in RHP Emilio Vargas. The twenty-two year old leads the Cal League in ERA (2.50) and in WHIP (1.23 and strikeouts (140). He was promoted to Double-A Jackson earlier this month. All-Stars and awards were voted on and selected by the teams. Below are the rest of the awards and honors for the 2018 season:
