Soo Eagles News Release
It's early July, but the Soo Eagles are already well underway in shaping their 2014-15 North American Hockey League season.
There have already been two tryout camps this off season, including May 16-18 at the Big Bear Arena, in Sault Ste. Marie, and June 27-29 at Suburban Ice Arena, in Farmington Hills, Michigan, which had well over 200 participants at both events.
The Eagles have one more tryout camp, in a new location, at the Middletown Ice World Arena, in Middletown, New Jersey, on July 11-13.
The Soo Eagles main camp will be held on August 1-3 at the Big Bear Arena, in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. The Eagles can carry a roster of 30 players until September 1, before it must be reduced to 25. The Soo Eagles participated in this year's NAHL draft in early June, where they had seven selections in the draft and rendered another 11 tenders, including local products, Chase Gamelin and Will Gauthier, from the Sault High Blue Devils, and Cole Lussier, from the midget Soo Indians.
The Soo Eagles will be hosting their Summer Camp, on July 28 - August 1 at the Big Bear. There will be two sessions, one for 6-8 year olds, and another for 9-12 year olds. More information on this event, is located in this week's newsletter.
While the Eagles will be busy this summer at the Big Bear, local construction crews are busy at the home of the Eagles, Pullar Stadium, as "Our Lady on Portage" is receiving a much needed facelift. Work is continuing, as the Pullar Community Building Renovation Project looks to be on track before the season begins. Eagle's fans should see new bathrooms, boards, refurbished locker rooms, a new coat of paint on the ceiling, and a new handicap-accessible entranceway, which opens up the lobby for fans entering Pullar Stadium, to get an immediate view of the ice.
After a two year hiatus, the Soo Eagles will resume their fierce rivalry against their once cross-border rivals the Soo Thunderbirds, as they resume their Rollie King Memorial Cup series, on September 5-6 at Pullar Stadium. The NAHL season schedule will see 28 home games, with the majority of them on Friday and Saturday nights.
The Eagles will also host their golf outing at The Crossings, also known as the Country Club, on September 6 and a Burger Bash at the Elks on September 8. It may be early July, but the Eagles are well on their way to another successful season, off and on the ice in 2014-15.
