Welcome to Championship Weekend Greetings!
The final week of the 2013 MLL Season is upon us and the Denver Outlaws, Hamilton Nationals, Chesapeake Bayhawks and Charlotte Hounds are on their way to MLL Championship Weekend at PPL Park presented by Smartlink in Philadephia, PA. All four teams are hitting the field for practices to gear up and prepare for battle in their quest to raise the coveted Steinfeld Trophy.
Will the Outlaws be able to complete the perfect season? Will the Bayhawks make it two in a row? Will the Nationals dominant offense carry them to the title? Or will the Hounds continue their winning ways? We'll find out soon but in the meantime read up on some analysis and see who is picking up some well deserved hardware. Jesse Schwartzman Warrior Goalie of the Year
After a record-setting 2013 season, Major League Lacrosse has announced that Denver Outlaws goalie, Jesse Schwartzman has been named the 2013 Warrior Goalie of the Year.
"This award is a real honor," said Schwartzman. "First of all I would like to thank the coaches and GMs who voted for me. A lot of credit goes to the guys in front of me, everyone talks about Matt Bocklet and Lee Zink but credit also goes to other defensemen like Chris O'Dougherty and Dillon Roy as well as short sticks like Justin Turri and Justin Pennington. Stan Ross has been unbelievable coaching the defense as well. It is a pleasure to be the back end of this defense."
Kevin Crowley Picks Up a Ton of Hardware
Hamilton Nationals' midfielder, Kevin Crowley was named 2013 Warrior Most Valuable Player and Brine Offensive Player of the Year and as voted on by MLL coaches and general manager. Crowley has exhibited all the qualities of an offensively dominant player, leading the League and his team in several categories while contributing to key wins.
"This is a big honor," said Crowley. "To have the respect of the MLL coaches and GMs is a huge compliment. A lot of it, though, comes down to playing on a great team where my teammates are making me a better player. If you look at the stats they have there are a lot of career-highs. Personal accolades are great achievements but right now I am focused on holding that trophy after the Championship game on Sunday."
Lee Zink Warrior Defensive Player of the Year
Lee Zink of the Denver Outlaws, has been named the 2013 Warrior Defensive Player of the Year, as voted by MLL coaches and general managers. Zink earned all 16 possible first place votes, the only player to win an end of the year award by a unanimous decision this season.
"It's such an honor to be named Defensive Player of the Year," said Zink. "This has been a really special season with a great team. I think everything has really come together to lead to the success we've had on the field so far. I'm really excited for this weekend to try to win a championship."
