TAMPA, Fla. - The majority of participants for the upcoming 2011 USL Men's Player Combine, presented by Umbro, were announced on Thursday with 101 players committed to participate in the event which will be hosted by the Charleston Battery of USL PRO at the club's famous Blackbaud Stadium from January 20-23.

Among the 101 players are 65 players with experience in the USL Premier Development League. Leading the list of players is 2010 PDL All-League selection Frank Alesci (Jersey Express), and he is joined by players such as former PDL All-Conference selections Carl Reynolds (New Orleans Jesters, 2010), Stewart Givens (Michigan Bucks, 2010) and Guilherme Reis (Bradenton Academics, 2010).

The Combine will also have an international flavor, with players from as far afield as Japan looking to catch the eye of the scouts that will be in attendance. One of those, midfielder Takashi Konta, is a former Japanese Under-21 international.

More than 400 players applied to participate in this year's combine, which offers a showcase for PDL alumni, recent college graduates and international talent to take their shot at the next level.

In all, USL has helped to establish the professional playing careers of more than 125 players through the USL Player Combine since 2006.

The top U23 men's league in North America, the USL Premier Development League (PDL) features 67 teams within four conferences across the United States and Canada. The PDL season consists of 16 regular season matches for each team, eight home and eight away, and provides elite collegiate players the opportunity to taste a higher level of competition while maintaining their eligibility. In addition to league play, PDL teams compete in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup as well as various exhibitions. The USL Premier Development League has proven to be an important stepping-stone for top professionals now playing throughout the world.
