2010 Olympic Champion Billy Demong Coming To Bellingham

BELLINGHAM, Wash. - The Bellingham Slam basketball team has announced that Olympic champion Billy Demong will be an honored guest of the team at its next home game on Memorial Day, May 31, when the team hosts the Olympia Reign. A 5 p.m. tip-off is scheduled for Whatcom Pavilion.

Demong gained notoriety this past February when he became the first American ever to win an Olympic gold medal in a Nordic combined event when we won the 10-km individual large hill event at the 2010 Winter Games in Vancouver. Demong later went on to capture a silver medal in the 4 x 5-km team large hill event and was also was selected as the flag bearer for the American delegation at the closing ceremonies of the Winter Olympics.

Demong, a 30-year-old native of Vermontville, New York, will be present at Monday's game to speak about his accomplishments and will also be available for pictures and autographs. His gold and silver medals from the 2010 Winter Olympics will also be on display.

The 2010 Winter Olympics were the fourth Olympic Games that Demong has competed in. He first became an Olympian in 1998 when he participated in the Nordic combined events at the Winter Olympics in Nagano, Japan, when we has still a senior in high school. He has captured three medals at the Nordic World Ski Championships, including a gold medal in 1999, and has won numerous World Cup events.

Tickets for Monday's basketball game against the Olympia Reign cost $10 for adults, $8 for students and seniors, and $5 for children 12 and under. Advance tickets are available by calling the Bellingham Slam at (360) 734-SLAM or may be purchased online at www.bellinghamslam.com.
