``We're blessed to bring aboard an athlete of Omar's talent and stature,'' Thomas said. ``It's just a matter of getting him acclaimed to the indoor game.''
Haugabook threw four touchdowns and ran for another to give the Trojans the bowl victory in the season finale of a year he compiled 2,401 yards and 21 touchdowns passing in addition to 313 yards and five scores on the ground.Troy State's 2006 season included a heartbreaking loss at Florida State and an 8-5 finish after a 1-4 start. Haugabook repeated as conference player of the year in 2007 with 2,975 yards and 18 TDs in 2007 as the Trojans finished 8-4 with a schedule that included Arkansas,
Florida, Oklahoma State and Georgia.
The Belle Glade, Fla. native began his collegiate career at Dodge City Community College, where he passed for over 5,000 yards in two seasons. He signed with the CFL's British Columbia Lions in 2008.
``This is an exciting development for the SIFL,'' said Commissioner Dan J. Blum. ``I'm very pleased that one of our first-year franchises can land a player of this stature. Anyone who can put 31 point on Florida and take Florida State to the limit obviously can play the game. I'm looking forward to seeing what he can do for Houma and the SIFL.
