2006 ArenaCup Media Day Wrap-up

August 25, 2006 - arenafootball2 (af2) News Release

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico - The following quotes were taken from Thursday's Media Day from members of both the National Conference Champion Spokane Shock and American Conference Champion Green Bay Blizzard about the upcoming ArenaCup7 contest to take place at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 26 at the Coliseo de Puerto Rico.

"We're excited to be here for ArenaCup7 in beautiful Puerto Rico," said Shock Head Coach Chris Siegfried. "We hope to stay competitive with Green Bay and make it a great football game for the fans. Hopefully this will give the fans of Puerto Rico a little taste of arenafootball2 action."

"My mom gave me the nickname E.T. because that was my favorite movie as a child," said Shock leading receiver Charles Frederick on why everyone calls him 'E.T.'."

"All of the facets this team possess have helped me to have my best individual year as a player this season," said Shock DS Rob Keefe who leads the team in tackles and interceptions. "We have a really great group of players here at every position, and we have just jelled as a team."

"We're in an outstanding place (Puerto Rico), getting ready for a great game featuring two of the best teams and ownership groups in the arenafootball2," said arenafootball2 President Jerry Kurz. "This is a world class event and I'm looking forward to the reactions from the Puerto Rico community. I really believe they are going to enjoy the event that we'll be putting on for them on Saturday night."

"This is the best place to be (Puerto Rico), we really appreciate all of the local support," said Blizzard Head Coach Bob Landsee. "Our whole team is excited to be here and take in all they can in the short time that they are here while also keeping an extreme focus on the game."

"The system and game are different from college to af2," said Blizzard Head Coach Bob Landsee about why his starting quarterback James MacPherson might have struggled early on in the season. "When Ronnie (Gordon) got hurt Mac took advantage of the opportunity at hand and never looked back. He's been a tremendous leader for our team both on and off the field."

"Kyle Rowley is a competitor, he has a quick release and the system he's in right now suits him perfect," said Blizzard Head Coach Bob Landsee on his opponent's starting quarterback. "We have a good idea of what he does since we've seen him before when he was playing for Manchester (Wolves), but controlling it is one thing while stopping it is another."

"This is great, I really couldn't have asked for anything more then to be with these guys playing for the championship," said Blizzard receiver Robert Garth on his teammates. "We're so close and jell so much that we know how everybody is going to react on different plays. We're all really looking forward to taking the field on Saturday night."

This Saturday, August 26, the American Conference Champion Green Bay Blizzard will battle the National Conference Champion Spokane Shock in the first-ever Arena Football game played in Puerto Rico. Tickets for the 2006 ArenaCup, held at the state-of-the-art Coliseo de Puerto Rico in San Juan, Puerto Rico are available by logging on to www.ticketpop.com or by calling (866) 994-0001.
