Milwaukee Admirals News Release
Milwaukee, WI-Twenty former Milwaukee Admiral players are still in the running for Stanley Cup as the National Hockey League begins the second round of the playoffs tonight.
The vast majority of those players, 16 to be exact, are currently members of the Nashville Predators, which is Milwaukee's NHL affiliate. Four Predators: Gabriel Bourque, Ryan Ellis, Roman Josi and Andres Lindback, all played for the Admirals at some point this season. Other Milwaukee alums who currently skate for the Preds include Martin Erat (02-03), David Legwand (05-06), Shea Weber (05-06), Patric Hornqvist (08-09), Colin Wilson (09-10), Jordin Tootoo (04-06), Matt Halischuck (10-11), Nick Spaling (08-11), Kevin Klein (04-08), Alexander Radulov (06-07), and Pekka Rinne (05-08). Nashville battles the Phoenix Coyotes in the best-of-seven Western Conference Semifinals.
The Washington Capitals are the only other remaining team with more than one former Admiral. Forward Matt Hendricks played for the Ads during the 2003-04 Calder Cup Championship season, while netminder Tomas Vokoun was in Milwaukee for parts of the 1998-99 and 99-00 campaigns. The Caps will face the New York Rangers in the second round.
Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Kimmo Timonen played for the Ads in 1998-99 and St. Louis Blues center Scott Nichol wore an Admirals sweater in 2005-06.
In addition to the players, New Jersey Devils Head Coach Peter DeBoer skated in a combined 149 games for the Admirals during the 1989-90 and 90-91 seasons.
Last season Rich Peverley became the 12th former Admiral to have his named etched on hockey's most hallowed trophy as he helped the Boston Bruins capture the Stanley Cup.
