2007 Season

Post by toad455 » Mon Nov 27, 2006 10:26 pm

With Gary recently joining and Rockford also expected, could the USBL possible reach 12 teams. In a news article about Gary joining, it said the league is looking at putting teams in Evansville, Indianapolis, Dallas, Rockford, & Jackson(Miss.).

I'm going to guess and say the league will be divided into 3 divisions:

EAST DIVISION
Albany
Brooklyn
Long Island
NE Pennsylvania(new ownership)

CENTRAL DIVISION
Gary
Rockford
Evansville
Nebraska

MIDWEST DIVISION
Kansas
Oklahoma
Dodge City
Jackson, Miss.

Top 8 teams advance to the post-season tournament

I think this is a wish list by the USBL. I don't see Nebraska wanting to leave their Midwest neighbors, and that is if they return. I've read where Kansas, Oklahoma and DC will be back. But the Cranes weren't mentioned.

Indianapolis would be a better fit for the Central Division anyway.

I also read where Long Island was a one-year deal to create even divisions.

Hmmmmm...and how much time will they have to market?

I guess I must be out of the information loop outside of Gary. There's been no word of Rockford actually joining the league to my knowledge. I keep hearing about Rockford in forums, but where's the evidence that Rockford is going to field a USBL team? Ed Krinsky's comment about talking with someone in Rockford about the possibility of a franchise is the first I've heard from the USBL. Is that it, discussions with someone in Rockford? That doesn't sound solid at all. It's almost 2007. Gary made their decision months ago.

USBL Teams

I doubt Long Island will be back, though I am sure management will work long and hard to place another team somewhere around NYC and league headquarters.

Nebraska is likely toast too.

There was some discussion of Roanoke, VA as well. Sam Amico floated the Globetrotters, though I don't know if that was just an idea. Rockford has been rumored for a while, though the MetroCenter management seems hard to work with. They have been trying to buy the hockey team and jerking them around too.

I wouldn't bet the farm that the NEPA Breakers come back either.

Word on the street is that the Breakers franchise will play in Newark, Delaware in 2007. Maybe the will be old "new" Delaware Destroyers!

The Roanoke rumors started in August.
This article says the league deadline is in December.

Well it looks like the new "Jackson" team has been named.

The Adirondack Wildcats have moved to Jackson , Mississippi for the '07 season.

I wonder why Jackson. I don't consider it to be a basketball hotbed. But anyway ... the league wants 12-15 teams.

I'm glad Gary updated their logo. I wish Kansas would do the same.

Other rumors ... NE Penna moving to Newark, DE. Rockford, Indy, Dallas and Roanoke are among other expansion cities.
