Warriors Swept by Texas in Weekend Series

FRISCO, Tex. - The NBA D-League Champion Santa Cruz Warriors (10-15) were defeated by the Texas Legends (12-9) 109-106 on Saturday at Dr. Pepper Arena.

Daniel Nwaelele paced the Warriors with 21 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists. Darington Hobson added 15 points, 7 assists, and 5 rebounds. Mac Koshwal posted a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Brandon Ashley recorded a double-double with 30 points and 14 rebounds. Tu Holloway also scored 30 points, while Manny Harris added 23 points on the night.

Neither team proved dominant in the first quarter, as the frame saw six lead changes and seven ties. Texas would lead by no more than five points in the second quarter and would head into the halftime break with a 53-50 lead.

Coming out of the locker room, Texas would take a seven-point lead at the 7:15 mark in the third quarter. Santa Cruz would respond with a 10-1 run to take a one-point lead with 3:55 left to play in the frame. Both teams would remain in a tight battle for the remainder of the third quarter, with Texas heading into the fourth leading 86-85.

The game continued to be closely contested in the fourth quarter, with the lead changing a total of nine times. Santa Cruz would break away halfway through the quarter, leading 100-93 with 5:48 left to play in the game. Texas would come back on a 9-1 run to take a 102-101 advantage at the 2:40 mark in the fourth quarter.

Trailing 106-104, Tu Holloway of the Legends would capitalize on an and-one layup to put Texas up 107-106 with nine seconds left in the game. The Legends would never relinquish their lead, defeating the Warriors 109-106.
