
Warriors Fall to the Bighorns

RENO, Nevada. -The Santa Cruz Warriors (2-4) fell to the Reno Bighorns (2-5) 100-84 on Sunday at Reno Events Center.
Elgin Cook came off the bench to lead the Warriors with 27 points, while Cam Jones added 16 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists. Scott Wood contributed 12 points, going 4-of-5 from beyond-the-arc.
The Bighorns were paced by Sacramento Kings assignee Malachi Richardson, who recorded a double-double, finishing with 24 points and 11 rebounds. Skal Labissiere, also on assignment from the Kings, added 18 points for Reno, while Lamar Patterson had 13.
In the opening quarter, the Warriors would jump out to an eight-point advantage to stave off a Reno lead to begin the second frame.
Reno responded with an 18-3 run to start the second quarter, taking a 14-point lead by the 6:31 mark. The hosts would open their lead to as many as 21 points in the second, and held a16-point cushion heading into the locker room.
Coming out of the break, the Bighorns would maintain a double-digit surplus despite efforts from Santa Cruz to chip away at the deficit.
Both teams remained scoreless for the first two minutes of the final frame until the Bighorns opened their lead to 23 points, behind a basket from Malachi Richardson. The Warriors were able to come within 12 points twice during the final minutes of regulation, but were unable to eclipse Reno's lead.
