Warriors Fall to Long Island Nets

BROOKLYN, New York -The Santa Cruz Warriors (2-6) were defeated by the Long Island Nets (2-7) 114-104 today at Barclays Center.

Santa Cruz's Elgin Cook and Phil Pressey both recorded a game-high-tying 22 points. Cook also posted a double-double for the Warriors with 11 rebounds, while Cam Jones added a double-double of his own for Santa Cruz with 11 points and 10 rebounds in 40 minutes.

Long Island's Beau Beech paced the Nets with 22 points on 8-of-16 shooting with four rebounds and four steals in 42 minutes, as all five Long Island starters scored in double figures. Brooklyn Nets assignee Yogi Ferrell posted a double-double with 18 points and a game-high 10 assists, while Chris McCullough, also playing on assignment from Brooklyn recorded 20 points with nine rebounds and four assists.

Once Long Island took a 5-3 lead at the 9:44 mark in the first quarter, the Nets never trailed Santa Cruz. The Nets continued to open their lead, racking up a surplus of 22 points in the third quarter, to keep a comfortable distance from the Warriors.

Santa Cruz attempted a comeback in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Nets 31-21 in the final frame. The Warriors would come within seven points at the 5:05 mark, but were unable to edge the Nets in the final minutes.

Long Island held Santa Cruz to 39.1 percent shooting from the field and 20.7 percent shooting from long range.
