Belton. Tx: The CenTex Barracudas have begun preparation for their 2008 season and Dr. Frederick Barnett, the team's owner since the 2007 season, has already begun to envision how he can make this season even more successful than last year's.
Barnett, a Diagnostic Radiologist at Metroplex Hospital for the past 12 years and a retired military officer, saw this team as a vehicle to continue his dedication of serving not only his country, but also his community.
"I have always believed in serving the local schools and businesses of my community because philanthropy has always been important to me" stated Barnett.
Barnett sees this team as a means to not only bring entertainment to the area, but a way to encourage the players and coaches to be involved with as much in the community as possible.
"The ways in which these players and coaches can assist in the community are endless" said Barnett. "They can go to local middle schools and high schools and talk to kids about the importance of staying in school and saying "No" to drugs and sex. Coaches and players can visit local hospitals to help lift the spirits of kids in the cancer wards, or visit injured soldiers to show them their appreciation."
Barnett sees these athletes as talented and driven individuals who continue to work to better themselves and to strive to achieve their ultimate goals.
"By creating the Barracudas franchise, I can help provide a way for these gifted athletes to continue their pursuit of a dream to one day play in the NFL."
Barnett also hopes to encourage these players to better themselves, not only as athletes, but as successful and responsible men.
"More than anything, I want to emphasize the importance to these players of being responsible not only on, but off the field as well. I will always encourage them to further their education so that, when football is over, their lives and futures will continue to flourish."
