SAN JOSE, Calif. - The SaberCats announced today that they have been assigned a trio of players; former San Antonio Talons defensive back Ken Fontenette as well as two former Milwaukee Mustangs; offensive linemen Mike Diaz and Raymond McNeil, all on two-year deals. The Arena Football League's open free agency period began on Monday Nov. 5.

"Solidifying both our secondary and offensive line is extremely important," Owner/Head Coach Darren Arbet said. "Ken, Mike and Raymond all have quality experience in this league and we are excited to continue to build depth across our whole football team."

Fontenette (5-11, 200, Houston) spent the 2012 season as a member of the San Antonio Talons. He appeared in 16 games at defensive back; tallied 94 total tackles (83 solo), intercepted six passes and forced a fumble for the Central Division champion Talons. He had an outstanding rookie season with the Kansas City Command in 2011, when he led the team with 110 total tackles (102 solo), intercepted three passes, recovered three fumbles and forced one more.

The Texas native spent his collegiate career at the University of Houston from 2004-08 and earned Second Team All-Conference USA honors in both 2007 and 2008 at safety. Fontenette also earned All-Freshman honors for Conference USA in 2005. He appeared in all 52 games for the Cougars, posting a career total of 309 total tackles with nine interceptions, four fumble recoveries and two forced fumbles.

Diaz (6-5, 320, Arizona) spent his first two seasons with the Milwaukee Mustangs and appeared in 15 games, 14 of which were starts. One of those was in 2011, while the other 14 appearances were last season in 2012. Prior to his AFL experience, Diaz spent a mini-camp with the Cleveland Browns of the National Football League in 2010. The Montebello, Calif. native concluded his collegiate career with Arizona, where he appeared in 25 games for the Wildcats from 2008-09. He transferred from Cerritos College, where he was a First-Team All-Conference performer both in 2006 and 2007.

McNeil (6-2, 310, Fort Valley State) was a member of the Mustangs in 2012, appearing in 14 games, 13 of which were starts on the offensive line. He split the 2011 season between the Utah Blaze and Spokane Shock, making 15 appearances, nine with the Blaze and six after being acquired in a midseason trade by the Shock. Prior to his AFL experience, McNeil was with the af2 version of the Mustangs in 2010 and was a Second-Team All-af2 performer in both 2008-09 for Milwaukee. At Fort Valley State University, McNeil was a perennial All-Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) selection during his career.
