Grand Rapids Drive News Release
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Bruno Caboclo has taken a liking to the basketball rims in Grand Rapids.
The Raptors 905 forward had 27 points and 11 rebounds on Wednesday night in a 108-92 win over the Grand Rapids Drive at the DeltaPlex Arena.
The Raptors, which are the parent team of the NBA's Toronto Raptors, improve to 22-27 and have won six of their last eight games. Grand Rapids, the affiliate of the Detroit Pistons, has lost four in a row and falls to 21-28.
Caboclo, a 6-foot-9 forward out of Brazil, scored a season-high 31 points in Grand Rapids on Monday night. He is averaging 14.4 points this season. Scott Suggs also had 27 points for the Raptors. Davion Berry had 21 and E.J. Singler added 18. Singler, who had team-record seven 3-pointers on Monday night, had four more on Wednesday.
Lost in the result was the monstrous game by Dahntay Jones. The 35-year-old forward out of Duke had 45 points, which set the franchise record history. He topped the 43 points that Devin Ebanks scored in January. He was 16-of-28 from the field and 12-of-14 from the free-throw line. Jones' previous season high was 30 points.
The Raptors led by 12 at halftime - 51-39 - with Caboclo leading the way with 16 points. But the Drive rallied back in the third quarter. Barlow scored on a floater in the lane to tie the game at 55-55 with 6:55 to go in the third quarter. Then Jones drained a 3-pointer to give Grand Rapids its first lead of the game, 58-55. That capped a 19-4 run. But the Raptors grabbed the lead right back.
Jones got a rise out of the crowd when he dunked over 7-foot-4 Sim Bhullar early in the first quarter.
Both teams conclude the regular season this weekend. The Raptors host the Canton Charge on Friday at 7 p.m. EST and Grand Rapids travels to Sioux Falls for an 8 p.m. contest on Saturday.
