Railroaders Acquire Texas Native John Hayes

CLEBURNE, Texas - The Cleburne Railroaders have acquired RHP John Hayes from the Wichita Wingnuts in exchange for a player to be named later, the club announced on Monday.

Hayes, 25, is a native of Denison, Texas and formerly pitched in the Detroit Tigers organization from 2016-18.

Hayes made 15 relief appearances with the Wichita Wingnuts this year, posting an 0-1 record with a 5.87 ERA. In 15.1 innings, Hayes has allowed 10 runs on 20 hits with 10 walks and 15 strikeouts.

In three seasons with the Tigers organization, he reached as high as Single-A West Michigan earlier this year, while posting a 4-4 record with a 2.75 ERA in 43 relief appearances between 2016 and 2018.

Hayes's best season came as a rookie in 2016, when he went 2-2 with a 1.80 ERA in 19 relief appearances for Low-A Connecticut of the New York Penn League. Hayes threw 25 innings and surrendered seven runs on 15 hits with 10 walks and 16 strikeouts.

While he pitched for three different schools - including Murray State College and Galveston College - Hayes pitched for Wichita State in his junior and senior seasons, making 59 relief appearances with a 4.58 ERA.

To make room for Hayes, OF John Menken was released. Hayes will wear the No. 27 with the Cleburne Railroaders.
