LAKE CHARLES LA - The Houston Professional Indoor Football Team of the Southern Indoor Football League announced today they have chosen the man who will lead them to victory in the upcoming 2011 season.
"We chose Coach Gerald Dockery from a short list of talented coaches because he towered above the pack," said owner Ivan Tompkins. "Coach 'Doc' has the charisma to ignite the spirit of a team that will carry them into the post season," he continued.
"I am honored to be chosen to lead this team on and off the field," said Coach Gerald Dockery. "The city of Houston has so much talent. I believe the SIFL will see speed, strength, and heart like they've never seen before. We've set our first tryout for Saturday October 9th. I'm sure we'll see the fast and the furious during tryouts."
Dockery played wide receiver, defensive back, and linebacker amassing 1,418 yards, 108 receptions, and 22 touchdowns. He has coached in Katy and Abilene for the Ruff Riders.
The Houston team has launched a "Name the Team" contest and will choose one of the top names submitted by their fans who have visited a temporary team website at www.thesiflinhouston.com.
