New Haven Ninjas News Release

New Haven, Conn. - The New Haven Ninjas' training camp winds up Friday night, and with it comes the trimming of the roster from a 30-man preseason roster to a 19-man active, two-man inactive roster for the April 6 season opener at Rochester. The final roster must be into the league Monday, April 1. The team brought 40 men into camp before having to cut to 30 on March 20.

Connecticut has been well represented on the Ninjas' roster, with nine players having ties to the Nutmeg State. Southern Connecticut State University supplied the Ninjas with three players, including OL/DL Tom Madigan, WR/LB Chris Ortiz, and DS Damon Richardson. University of New Haven's OL/DL Dan Hayes and OS Ketric Barnes also boast a state connection.

While Head Coach Rick Buffington has another day of practice in which to judge talent, there are some players that seem to have an edge based on experience. DS Andre Dixon played for the Detroit Lions in 1999 and QB Phil Stambaugh spent the last 10 weeks of the 2001 NFL season with the Jacksonville Jaguars after being the starting quarterback for the Rhein Fire of NFL Europe.

The Ninjas' home opener is Saturday, April 13 at the New Haven Coliseum. Tickets are available by calling 203-503-6011, by visiting the Coliseum box office, Ticketmaster by phone 203-624-0033, ticketmaster.com, or at any Ticketmaster location. For additional team news and information, fans should visit the Ninjas' website at www.newhavenninjas.com.
