Norfolk Nighthawks News Release

MAY 16 -- The Norfolk Nighthawks defeated the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers 49-35, Friday night in front of 4,600 fans in Pennsylvania. The victory marked the second time in a span of two weeks that the Nighthawks upended the Pioneers. In doing so, the Nighthawks swept the season series between the two clubs.

The Nighthawks were led by quarterback Aaron Sparrow who completed 20 of 30 passes and connected for six touchdowns. Nighthawk OS Travis Burns was the recipient of four of Sparrow¹s six touchdowns tosses. Burns caught eight balls for 141 yards and garnered the games Most Valuable Player Award. The Pioneer¹s early lead would not hold as the Nighthawks scored 34 straight points on 5 touchdown passes from Sparrow to take a 34-7 lead.

The Pioneers would answer before the half and narrow the lead to 34-14 on Harry Brunson's 6-yard touchdown reception from QB Chris Boden. The Pioneers defense held the Nighthawks to 15 second half points. Fortunately, the Nighthawks lead would withstand the defensive barrage, and the Pioneers offense could manage only 21 points in the final half.

The Nighthawks (4-2) travel next to Connecticut to face the Mohegan Wolves on May 23.
