Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
Waterloo, Iowa - Midway through his second year with the Waterloo Black Hawks, 20-year-old forward Niko Hildenbrand has accepted an offer to play college hockey for the University of Massachusetts Minutemen.
The California native has been in the lineup for 73 games as a Black Hawk. Hildenbrand has 13 goals and 16 assists in that time. A key defensive forward who contributes to Waterloo penalty killing efforts, Hildenbrand is also +7 during his time in the league. For the Hawks this season, he has eight points in 19 appearances.
Hildenbrand's former Waterloo teammate, Brandon Montour, spent a portion of the 2014/15 season skating for the Minutemen before signing a professional contract with the Anaheim Ducks last spring. Other recent players who have spent time in both Waterloo and Amherst include Eddie Olczyk, Mike Marcou, and James Marcou.
The Black Hawks' roster now includes 17 players with Division I college commitments. Hildenbrand will eventually find himself in opposing colors skating against current teammates and future Hockey East conference rivals Liam Pecararo (Northeastern), Brandon Schultz (Northeastern), David Cotton (Boston College), and Cale Morris (Notre Dame).
Hildenbrand recorded his first multigoal USHL performance in a game against the Sioux Falls Stampede on October 11, 2014. Waterloo faces the Stampede Friday and Saturday at Young Arena. For tickets, call the Domino's Black Hawks Box Office at (319) 291-7680 or visit waterlooblackhawks.com.
